The Vibe
Many people’s favourite Greek island, Santorini has the highest concentration of chic hotels. This one feels like organic cave-dwelling-laidback and boho.
Who comes here?
Unflashy but savvy folk looking to chill out. Catherine Zeta-Jones.
It’s all Greek to me…
The island used to be round until a volcanic eruption in 1,500 BC.
The lowdown
Perivolas looks like it has grown out of the earth. It’s the ultimate cliff-hanger, set in a natural amphitheatre that overlooks a glorious infinity-pool and floating above views stretching out, out into the Aegean Sea. It’ s a heady, romantic place, earthy and groovily Greek. The 17 rooms are built into 300-year-old caves, which were once the stables of fishermen. White and bright, with bold touches of blue, pink and lavender, each comes with its own terrace, domed bathroom and little kitchen – great for home-made picnics, although there is an excellent restaurant if you prefer. The staff are jolly, there’s a spa and the garden is filled with sun, shade and space. The Presidential Suite – with private poll, steam room, stone Jacuzzi, two beds and two bathrooms – is knockout. It sounds swanky but is still home-grown, with no TV and an olive tree in the middle of the sitting room. Start the day with apple pie, honeyed yogurt and juices: finish it with a glass of vin santo, watching the lights of Oia in the distance. Studio, from £ 255 a night.
