The Vibe
A resorty place for Santorini but total fun for families, with stacks going on.
Who comes here?
Angelina Jolie, with her ever-expanding family, loves it.
It’s all Greek to me…
Some claim the ruins of Akrotiri are evidence that Santorini is the location for the lost city of Atlantis.
The lowdown
Fabulous family fun. Because of its clifftop locations and abundance of steps, Santorini is not generally considered a place for children, but Vedema is precisely that. It’s built like a traditional Greek village – but stylish rather than twee. The 45 breezy villas are minimalist-goes-Med, with four-posters, vibrant-painted walls, creamy sitting rooms and handy kitchens. This is also one of the few hotels on the island that understands the importance of whizz-bang technology-plasma screens, DVD players, music stations. Many of the two-bedroom villas come with private pools and open-air Jacuzzis. You could stay for a week and always eat somewhere different: a fresh- fig salad by the pool, an in-villa extravaganza or a picnic in the hotel’s private area on the black-sand beach. There’s a spa for mums who need a massage and a babysitting service. Double, from £204 a night.
