AN HISTORIC PAST
Against a backdrop of a cobalt blue sky and sea,the white-washed Masseria San Domenico stands proud, evoking its historic past. Situated in Puglia, the 'heel' of Italy recently hailed the 'new Tuscany', the building was once a watchtower, used in the 15th century as a defence against the Turks.

Having been beautifully restored, the hotel stands amidst 100 hectares of olive groves, orchards and countryside that is still wild and unspoilt. The Masseria is simply the best hotel in the area, with 50 luxuriously appointed rooms and suites, crammed full of eye-catching antique artefacts.

Horse riding and motorboat rental can be organised by the concierge, as can excursions to the cave dwellings at San Lorenzo, the delightful Alberobello village with its 'trulli' houses or Ostuni, 'The White City'.
